Valentine's Day, the Super Bowl, and Your Feelings

Image
At one point in last night's Super Bowl game (sometimes lovingly referred to as the "stupid bowl" in our household ...), there was a touchdown "scored," but it was "recalled" shortly after the fact, due to a penalty on the play.  *this was the one and only play I actually watched after working a 12-hr shift at the hospital* The football players believed they had scored, and so naturally, they celebrated. However, their celebration didn't reflect the truth of the play. The reality of the situation was that they needed to replay the down - the touchdown was invalid.  I've had quite a few moments in my life where I thought  something was true, and my feelings reflected that thing I thought to be true. However, I was wrong in many of these instances, and therefore, my feelings were also wrong. So, here's a  bold reminder for your day: If you are believing a lie, your feelings are fake. __________________ "If your beliefs don't reflect

Your Minutes Matter

Image
The concept of time is odd. Have you ever thought about how RIGHT NOW, in this exact moment, is where time touches eternity?  *Joke break* Joe: "Hey Mom, what time is it?" Mom: "3:00 O'Clock" Joe: "Ugh." Mom: "What's the matter?" Joe: "I've been asking that question all day, and everyone gives me a different answer!!" A different answer. All. Day. Long. Can you imagine!? Funny stuff. Yet, there is a seriousness to the concept of time. It isn't just something to laugh at, but to take seriously. Because, your minutes matter. Oh, also, if I ever run out of time jokes and puns, I'll always have daylight savings jokes to fall back on.  Okay... puns aside. I hope those added some giggles to your day. So easily, we waste our time. So quickly, the seconds tick by. Before we know it, it has been a moment. Minutes. An hour. A day. A year. A decade. And yet, the clock continues. Seconds make up minutes. Minutes make up hours. H

Taking Off

Image
Prepare for the takeoff; Prepare for a jolt. Buckle your seatbelt, Or else you'll fall out. You’ve got to prepare, or it really won’t work. Prepare for the rain, even 'midst the drought. Let God be your pilot, Let His love be your wings. Let God give you your fuel As you behold beautiful things. Fly up, up, up, and go onward, but don’t forget to look down: You'll see just how far, Just how far up you’ve come. You've got to remember The reason you're here The purpose for takeoff And where you're going to land. You will eventually reach a pace where you’ll land But you need to remember Him; Jesus, who will be holding your hand. __________________ "but they who wait for the  LORD  shall renew their strength;      they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary;      they shall walk and not faint."  - Isaiah 40:31

Picture Frames

Each day, you have the opportunity to "frame" your day. Your thoughts and choices, along with whatever else surrounds your day's circumstances, are quite literally a framework: they're a lens, through which you perceive your day as "good" or "bad."  In what I've experienced over the last few weeks, there ar e always BOTH good and bad moments in a day's work. Can you relate? And ultimately, at the end of the day, you get to CHOOSE whether you'll focus on the good or the bad.  But, rather than doing this at the end of the day, try choosing it at the beginning of the day. It makes a big difference! I challenge you to give it a try. __________________ "Start your day by surrendering it to God - giving it to Him, and trusting Him with the overall outcome of your minutes." __________________ Here are two ways I could frame a single day's work: Negative : I parked in the wrong spot, and missed the shuttle to and from the hospit
