wedding invites

Consider yourself addressing wedding invitations:

1. You put together a list of all the people who are important to you.

2. You pick a time and a location for the wedding, considering when would work best for all your people.

3. You create an invitation - it's beautifully done, with words communicating the most important information (you might even write: "details to come...")

4. You seal and address your envelopes

5. You buy some stamps, stick them in the mail, and wait for a response from your guests.

Now, consider Jesus, the bridegroom, doing this for His people:

ALL people are important to Him.

The time and location of His second coming is unknown, but we're asked to be ready. It's almost like a "save the date," except we're supposed to save EVERY date for His wedding.

He has created an invitation, beautifully written: His Word.

He has sealed salvation for us - he paid the price not for stamps, but for our salvation.

He sent us His word, and He awaits our response.

The Marriage Supper of the Lamb

Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out,

“Hallelujah!

For the Lord our God
    the Almighty reigns.
Let us rejoice and exult
    and give him the glory,
for the marriage of the Lamb has come,
    and his Bride has made herself ready;
it was granted her to clothe herself
with fine linen, bright and pure”—

for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.

And the angel said[a] to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.” 10 Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.” For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

~ Revelation 19:6-10
